Original Gourd Art
I really enjoyed working on this gourd mask. I usually work in clay and I’m known for my museum quality clay Native American themed portrait masks. Gourds are fun because they are lightweight and the earthly feel to them is nice to work with. Recently completed, this gourd mask features a 10 inch diameter face hand painted and adorned with turkey and pheasant feathers with one large pretty macaw feather in the center. I first applied wood stain to the gourd before painting it. The nose is a round piece of turquoise. The fringe is black leather cord with brass cones at the top and red white heart glass beads at the bottom. The sides have red and blue white heart glass beads and brass beads. The entire size is 28 inches wide and 27 inches tall and 3 inches deep. Wired and ready to hang.
