Native American Clay Mask, Sneak Up

Original Museum Quality Art

I love this clay mask because of the intensity of the eyes and the contrast of black and white, one of my favorite color combinations when creating my Plains Indian and warrior themed clay masks. When making my Native American inspired works I almost always use the four basic colors known to the indigenous peoples of the Americas and the colors of the four directions and the medicine wheel so most of my clay mask works feature black, white, yellow and red. On occasion I have used turquoise paint. This particular piece, Sneak Up, is very traditional with the black and white which makes for a intense look. Dimensions of face is 5″ x 7″. Dimensions including hair and feathers is 14″ x 3″. Materials: clay, horse hair, paint, turkey feathers. Hand made, not molded from a person’s face or from a commercial face mask. My masks have been featured in 9 solo museum exhibitions and published in the magazines Cowboys & Indians, Native Peoples & Wild West.
