2018 Native American Trade Feast in Novato Big Success

Trade Feast at Museum of the American Indian Draws Big Crowd

The September 15th 2018 Native American Trade Feast at Miwok Park was a wonderful success. The event was sponsored by The Museum of the American Indian in Marin County. The museum provides exhibits, programs and events that deepen the understanding and appreciation of indigenous cultures of the Americas.  I worked closely with Teresa Saltzman, Director, to promote the event. A few years ago I was honored to have an exhibit of masks at the museum and in March of 2019 I will again install an exhibit. More to come on that.

We had more people than last year and everything ran smoothly and all participants, vendors and visitors had a great time. The weather was near perfect with only a bit of occasional wind.

The event featured songs by T-Hawk, Red Voice Drum with dancers Sacheen Littlefeather, Charles Koshiway, Chelsea Hicks and Sophia Catalano. Other performers were California Indian Dancers, Aztec Dancers Kalpulli Anahuak and Hawaiian Dancers Hula Manu O’o.

Also featured was Native American Fry Bread by Mishewal Wappo, Miwok songs and stories, basketry demonstrations, regalia making, shell bead drilling, children activities, book sales, tours of the Museum and a wide variety of arts and crafts vendors which included myself.

Opening blessing was given by Robert Baguio and Flag presentation with Unole Women Drum Group. Our MC was Sky Road Webb.
